“Wheel and deal! Strike it rich! Win this fast-dealing, property trading game.” Created in the early 20th century, Monopoly originally aimed to demonstrate the inequities of unbridled capitalism. This renowned board game with thematic iterations worldwide is now reimagined as a dance piece. Inspired by the work and life of Lizzie Magie, the little recognized creator of Monopoly, MJM Dance, led by choreographer Megan J. Minturn, considers the injustices (for-profit prisons, poorly paid work and inadequate housing) caused by our current "game board rules.” This work was rehearsed at the Mark Morris Dance Center as part of their Subsidized Studio Rental Program.
