Each year, in partnership with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), MMDG provides vital access to the arts through dance classes for young people and seniors living in public housing.
Classes for kids and teens focus on genres of dance that are specifically of interest to the participants (jazz/hip hop, salsa, modern, and more). Youth gain access to high quality dance instruction, life-building skills such as self-confidence, accountability, motivation, spatial reasoning, and collaboration.
Classes for seniors promote healthy aging, encourage physical activity and community interaction, enhancing the quality of life for residents. Seniors are led through professional dance techniques.
All classes are taught by members of the Mark Morris Dance Group and Mark Morris Dance Center faculty.
Bring this program to your community. Contact Sarah Marcus, Director of Education, for more information.
