SPACE RENTAL FAQS
I’m a first-time renter. How do I book space?
First time renters must submit a request via the Space Rental Inquiry Form, which can be located throughout the rental section of the website. MMDG’s Rental Manager will respond to all inquiries to coordinate space, determine the appropriate rental rate, and walk through our rental policies. Once availability has been confirmed, renters will receive a confirmation, contract, and invoice via email. Contracts must be reviewed and e-signed before the first rental date.
After a rental agreement has been signed, space can be booked through our rental manager via email, over the phone, or in person. MMDG rents up to three months in advance.

What are your hours of operation?
Monday-Friday 8:30am-9:30pm and Saturday 9am-6:30pm. The Dance Center is closed on Sundays but occasionally opens its doors for special events. Space may be booked during regular business hours via email, over the phone, or in person.
What are the dimensions of your studios?

What type of floors do your studios have?
All studios have permanent sprung marley floors except for Studio D, which has a padded, wood floor. If you have special floor requests, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate them.
Do your studios come equipped with sound systems, audio hookups, and video players?
Yes, sound systems and audio hookups are provided for your use in each studio. You can play CDs, DVDs, connect an iPod/mp3 player, iPhone/smartphone, or laptop with the ¼ inch headphone jack and cable provided. The Front Desk is available to assist you if you need help operating a unit. If the volume level interrupts other building activity or puts the speakers at risk, you will be asked to lower the volume.
May I wear shoes?
Only proper dance footwear is permitted in the studios. Tap and Irish Step Dancing shoes are allowed in all studios. Flamenco shoes may be worn in Studio D and the ICF studio only. Street shoes are not allowed any studio, please remove them before entering. This applies to all participants and observers. High heels and rosin are forbidden in all studios.
May I teach a class?
Because we have a curated class curriculum, we do not rent space for ongoing classes. However, we welcome one-time classes and workshops, subject to the approval of the Operations and Education departments. Please submit inquiries through our Space Request Form.
May I take pictures or film my rehearsal/event?
If you are interested in photographing or filming in any of the spaces at the Dance Center, you must ask permission and receive approval prior to your photo or film session. No one may be recorded without their consent including incidental background footage. You may view our complete Photo/Video Policies and find our approval request form here.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Wi-fi is not currently provided at the Dance Center. However, depending on your location in the building you can access various public networks available in Downtown Brooklyn including BAMwifi_forBK or DowntownBrooklynWifi_Fon. These are open, public networks and the Dance Center takes no responsibility for access, security, or functionality.
Are there showers/lockers?
Yes, men's and women's dressing rooms with bathrooms and lockers are available on the 1st and 4th floors of the Dance Center. We encourage use of the lockers, however you must provide your own lock to secure your valuables. The Dance Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Locks are available for sale in our Store on the 4th floor or at the front desk. Showers are available in the 4th floor dressing rooms. You should bring your own towel and supplies for shower use.
Does the Dance Center have an elevator?
Yes, you can access all 5 floors of the Dance Center by elevator or stairs.
What is the Early Bird Special?
MMDG offers a special discounted rate for early morning rehearsal rentals from 8:30-10am at only $10. The Early Bird special is available in all seven studios, including the James and Martha Duffy Performance Space. To book space, mention "Early Bird Rental Special" in your rental request form or email.
