Jazz Dance

Group of young dancers wearing black and light pink. They have their upper bodies rotated towards the front of the room with the rest of their body facing the side.

Jazz Dance

Born out of African dance, American tap dance, ballet and theatre, jazz dance is a vernacular form that places a strong emphasis on musicality, rhythm and dynamic movement. Classes in The School draw from a variety of historical and contemporary jazz styles including Broadway Jazz and influences from the techniques of Cole, Dunham, Fosse, Giordano, and Luigi. In all levels students will be encouraged to develop their artistic voice through the lens of popular music and a variety of movement styles, while also honoring the history of the form and its roots. Classes begin with a high-energy warm-up, progress to across-the-floor exercises, and use skills and concepts to master choreography and increase agility. All levels emphasize strength, isolations, syncopated rhythms, and precision.
