Dance Camps for AGES 6-8, AGES 9-12, BEGINNING TEENS and INTERMEDIATE TEENS w/ MORRIS REPERTORY provide an opportunity for students to continue their training in the fundamentals of dance movement with a focus on technique, musicality and strength. Students study in a concentrated daily format and experience a variety of dance disciplines. Classes include live musical

NOTE: Students should be at an intermediate level with three to four years experience in both ballet and modern dance. Students study in a concentrated format including daily technique classes with live musical accompaniment. The week includes ballet and modern dance classes with a focus on learning Mark Morris repertory taught by Mark Morris Dance Group members Lauren Grant and David Leventhal. The week concludes with a studio showing that family and friends are invited to attend.
FACULTY
Misty Owens, (Ages 6-12, Beg Teen) founding faculty member and Student Company director, received her B.F.A. from the University of New Mexico and her M.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is currently performing with the Peggy Spina Tap Company. She has over fifteen years of teaching experience with young children, including a dance education program in the New York City public schools.
Chelsea Glassman, (Ages 6-8) originally from Baltimore, Chelsea received her B.F.A. in Dance from SUNY Purchase. She has taught and choreographed for the Dance Academy of Baltimore and at The Berkeley Carroll School's summer day camp. In addition to Mark Morris, Chelsea is currently on faculty at Dancewave and Manhattan Youth, teaching modern and creative dance. She is a certified Personal Trainer, has most recently been dancing with Hilary Easton + Company and the Mark Morris Dance Group, and currently teaches Modern Dance at the Mark Morris Dance Center.
Lauren Grant, (Int Teens) has danced with the Mark Morris Dance Group since 1996. Performing leading roles in The Hard Nut and Mozart Dances, Ms. Grant has been an original cast member of 20 Mark Morris works and has appeared in over 40 of his dances. She is on the faculty of the Mark Morris Dance Center and teaches technique and repertory at schools and universities across the U.S. and abroad. She graduated with a BFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Ms. Grant has been featured in Time Out New York, Dance Magazine, and the book Meet the Dancers.
David Leventhal, (Int Teens) has danced with the Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG) since 1997. He performs principal roles in Morris’ The Hard Nut, L’Allegro, I'll Penseroso ed il Moderato, and Romeo and Juliet, on Motifs of Shakespeare. He is on the faculty of the Mark Morris Dance Center, and teaches technique and repertory classes for students of all ages at schools and universities in the U.S. and abroad, including UCLA, University of Michigan, Harvard University, University of Washington, American Dance Festival and the Governor's School for the Arts (Virginia) among others. He has conducted educational outreach projects for the New York City Board of Education, the Virginia International Arts Festival, English National Opera, Wolftrap Foundation, and Dance Umbrella (UK). David is the program manager and one of the founding teachers of the MMDG/Brooklyn Parkinson Group's Dance for PD program, which offers dance classes for people with Parkinson's disease in Brooklyn, and in more than 20 cities in the US and abroad. Raised in Newton, Mass., he attended Brown University where he received a B.A. with honors in English Literature. He received his early dance training at Boston Ballet School.
