Santa Monica, CA – December 23 – The viewers have voted and named Mark Morris’ The Hard Nut as the Viewers’ Choice during the recent first-ever television event “Battle of the Nutcrackers” on Ovation TV, the only network dedicated exclusively to art and personal creativity.

In this newly introduced holiday tradition, throughout the month of December four uniquely different interpretations of the holiday classic by Pyotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky were presented on Ovation TV and viewers were invited to vote for their favorite. Viewers voted in large numbers at OvationTV.com, with voting ending December 19.

As the Viewers’ Choice, a Christmas Eve marathon of Mark Morris’s The Hard Nut will be presented Monday, December 24, 8 PM to 4 AM ET/PT (ending on Tuesday, December 25). On Christmas Day, all four wonderful productions will be presented back-to-back in a marathon from 8 AM to 4 AM ET/PT (ending on Wednesday, December 26) as a festive backdrop to holiday celebrations.

In addition to Mark Morris’s The Hard Nut, the participants in the television event were George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker!, and Bolshoi Ballet: The Nutcracker.

Nutcracker is the magical love story of young Clara whose toy nutcracker transforms into a brave prince and takes her on a journey into the Land of Snow and Sweets on Christmas Eve. The production first premiered at the Marinsky Theater in St. Petersberg, Russia, in December 18, 1892 and has become a beloved holiday favorite around the world.
