Expansion Campaign

The Dance Group opened the Mark Morris Dance Center in 2001 - View Photos - as a permanent home for MMDG. That same year, we opened The School at the Mark Morris Dance Center so that the community could join us each week to dance.

By establishing the Mark Morris Dance Center, MMDG has become an active participant in the cultural life of its community. Through its many education and community programs, MMDG has woven itself into the fabric of its Brooklyn neighborhood and has emerged as a dynamic and positive force in the growth of the community.

To accommodate the increased demand for its programs and to further develop Brooklyn’s growing reputation as a destination for arts and culture, the Mark Morris Dance Group is expanding the Dance Center. This expansion project is scheduled to be completed summer 2009.

We are adding a new ground floor studio, an additional lounge area, more bathroom and locker facilities, and a new Wellness Center. We’re redesigning the first-floor lobby so everyone can check-in downstairs, and installing outdoor signage which will give us visibility along Flatbush Avenue. All of these changes are designed with the community in mind.

Funding for projects like ours has essentially disappeared as a result of the current economic crisis. In order for this expansion project to be successful, we need your help. We are asking everyone who uses the Dance Center to contribute to this project so that together we can finish this expansion by the end of summer. Now is when we need new Friends, whose gifts help most. What you give, no matter at what level, allows us to continue to bring more dance and music to this community, to make Brooklyn even better.
