Mark Morris Dance Group
The Mark Morris Dance Group performs the extraordinary and ever-expanding repertory of dances by Mark Morris each year in the world’s most prestigious dance and music venues. A feature of every MMDG performance, live music has become a hallmark of the Mark Morris Dance Group. Morris’s visionary leadership, unique and inspired performances and collaborations with top orchestras and renowned opera companies have earned MMDG the reputation as a leading dance company of our time.
The School at the Mark Morris Dance Center
The School reflects the spirit of MMDG in its celebration of dance and music. The Dance Center’s five studios are filled with dancers of all ages and abilities participating in a wide range of classes from ballet and modern dance to jazz/hip-hop and belly dancing.
Subsidized Studio Rental
MMDG offers 3,000 premium rehearsal hours each year in the Dance Center’s five fully-equipped studios at deeply reduced rates. Nearly 400 distinct established and emerging companies have made use of the studios since the subsidy program began in 2001.
Community Scholarship
MMDG partners with local social service agencies and offers free after-school dance classes for neighborhood children ages 9-12 at the Dance Center throughout the school year.
Dance for Parkinson’s
Through a partnership with the Brooklyn Parkinson’s Group, MMDG dancers lead weekly customized dance workshops for people with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. These workshops have received national and international recognition.
Mark Morris Dance, Music & Literacy Project
MMDG conducts in-school residencies to introduce Brooklyn school children to Mark Morris’s work. Students are taught the poetic, artistic and musical roots of the dances and visit the Dance Center for a private performance and conversation with the Dance Group.
