Position: Rental Programs Manager

Reports to: Operations Manager

SUMMARY:

Located in the thriving Brooklyn Cultural District, the Mark Morris Dance Center, home of the world-renowned Mark Morris Dance Group (MMDG), is seeking a Rental Programs Manager to run the Dance Center’s vital rental programs, creating mission aligned strategic goals and finding innovative ways to build and serve the rental community. This full-time 40-hour per week position reports to the Operations Manager.

Since 2001, the Mark Morris Dance Group has provided affordable rental space to the New York City arts community at the Dance Center. With 7 column-free dance studios (including the 3,600-square foot James and Martha Duffy Performance Space) as well as a conference room, lounge and terrace, the Dance Center provides rental space to artists and community groups for a multitude of uses, including:

  • Subsidized dance rehearsals for independent artists and dance companies, funded by the Mellon Foundation, New York State Council for the Arts and others
  • Rehearsals, workshops, auditions, showings, and conferences for non-profit and commercial groups
  • Film and photo shoots
  • Performances in the convertible 166-seat proscenium-style theater

MMDG also rents space to medical and bodywork practitioners and fitness instructors in its Wellness Center, a private treatment and exercise facility at the Dance Center.

In the coming year, the Mark Morris Dance Center will be providing greater access to affordable rental space with the addition of 3 new studios at the Dance Center. An experienced and creative manager will play an essential role in balancing program growth and sustainability. 

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the primary contact for the rental community, responding to inquiries, booking space, and building and maintaining relationships
  • Implement and maintain rental policies and procedures
  • Execute all rental contracts and billing
  • Work with the Finance department to create revenue projections, set goals and reconcile rental revenue
  • Work with the Marketing department to provide clear rental information and build interest in rental programs
  • Train Front Desk staff to answer rental questions and assist with the rental booking and payment process outside of office hours
  • Manage 7,000 hours of grant subsidized rehearsal space per year, ensuring space is issued to qualifying artists
  • Assess subsidized rehearsal rental program performance, track allocated hours, and provide analysis for reports to funders
  • Contract, schedule, and invoice Wellness Center practitioners
  • Screen performance and conference rental requests for Operations Manager
  • Provide administrative support to the Operations Manager 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three+ years of administrative experience
  • Desire to work in a cultural non-profit organization
  • Experience with contract generation and invoicing
  • Experience with scheduling and POS software required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English); additional languages a plus
  • Well organized with great attention to detail
  • Enjoys providing excellent customer service
  • Ability to act with diplomacy and patience
  • Willingness to receive Fire Safety Personnel training and to serve in this capacity for rental events; front or back of house production crew experience a plus

SCHEDULE:

  • 40 hours per week
  • Five days per week, including most Saturdays
