Layla and Majnun is an original dance and live music production based on an ancient Arabian love story well known in the Islamic world. A highly anticipated collaboration between the Mark Morris Dance Group and The Silk Road Ensemble, the work will explore the story’s themes of love, madness and mysticism through Mark Morris’ uniquely musical choreography and will feature popular Azerbaijani singers Alim and Fargana Qasimov performing on stage with musicians of The Silk Road Ensemble and the Mark Morris Dance Group.

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, DC; Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois; Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York, New York; Sadler's Wells, London, England; and University Musical Society at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.


“Layla and Majnun,” based on a fifth-century Persian romantic poem, performed by the Mark Morris Dance Group with The Silk Road Ensemble. A Meany Center co-commission and Northwest premiere, it opens the season. (Oct. 6-8)
