Details

“Originally Canonic Waltz Studies, the title was changed when Morris discovered that not all the musical selections were waltzes. He created it on the students of his summer workshop at On the Boards in Seattle. The piece was a workshop for him too; he was about the make New Love Song Waltzes, and he was practicing working with ¾ time.”
– Joan Acocella, Mark Morris (1993)

Press Quotes

  • "Set to an assortment of waltzes, it unleashed a nonstop barrage of inventive and often unorthodox ways for nine dancers to emphasize the waltz beat."
    Los Angeles Times
  • "Morris at his structural best - a mathematically musical study of how a movement phrase can be tweaked, torqued, and twisted into a plethora of permutations."
    Sarasota Herald-Tribune
