Details
In 1984, Morris created the walk-and-crawl duet to the first movement ("Gloria in excelsis"), which was unchoreographed in the 1981 version. He also changed the ending. In 1981 the dancers simply backed to the sides of the stage on the final "Amen." In 1984 they formed an X pattern, twirled, and fell. Elsewhere, he simplified the choreography.
In 1986, an abbreviated version was taped for broadcast for the PBS special Mark Morris, Dance in America. In 2006, as part of the Dance Group's 25th Anniversary Celebration in New York City, Mark Morris conducted the piece for the first time.
