A wide range of dance styles from around the world and throughout the ages allow students to expand their dance vocabularies and work on technique derived from a multitude of cultures and traditions.

Beginner Flamenco

Learn the fundamentals of a Spanish art form. This open level class covers flamenco basic technique with an emphasis on mastering the critical relationship between baile (the dance), toque (the music), and cante (singing). The class focuses on exercises for footwork, flamenco turns, body posture, movement and coordination and end with a short choreography, taking the student beyond the steps to incorporate style and expression. Enjoy, work, think, and increase your self-confidence while learning to use your body to express characters and emotions.

This class covers the basics of salsa dancing in the traditional New York On 2 style. Classes will include stretching, body isolation, and styling techniques and will focus on footwork and basic partner work skills. A great opportunity to learn and refine your social dance skills in a fun, friendly, and exciting environment.

Suggested Attire:

  • Comfortable clothing in which you can easily move.
  • Character shoes, ballroom dance shoes, jazz shoes or thin socks. No street shoes, heels, pumps.

Beginner Salsa

Dancers will focus on sophisticated footwork, spinning techniques, and partner work.  Additionally, class will explore salsa choreography, timing and musicality through the Cha Cha rhythm, and performance skills. Be ready to learn fun routines that you can take on the dance floor.  Experience necessary. No partner required.

Intermediate Belly Dance

This class explores the traditional belly dances of North and East Africa. In addition to learning belly dance’s fundamental movement and performance techniques, students will be introduced to choreography, music, and the use of props. This class is for students who have some experience with belly dance.

Suggested Attire:

  • Comfortable clothing in which you can easily move. Belly dance skirt optional
  • Class is taken barefoot.

Beginner Afro-Brazilian & Capoeira

Afro-Brazilian dance is full of spontaneous, soulful movement that energizes the body and spirit. In this class, dancers will learn sequences and exercises that prepare the body for the uplifting and exciting dances of northern Brazil, where African influences are most present. Participants will develop rhythm and coordination, stay fit, relieve stress, and learn about Brazilian culture. Styles covered include: Afro-Brazilian, Samba, Samba de Roda, Axé, Sambareggae, Afoxé, and Orixas.

This class unites dance, rhythm, and song. It creates an environment and dance community that nurtures, heals, renews, and inspires the body and spirit. The class was listed in New York magazine’s “The Best of New York”, New York Confidential, and was also written up in New York Woman’s “Time Out”. Open to all experience levels.
