Helen Rolfe grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, where she trained at the pre-professional level in ballet and musical theatre. Her summer intensive experiences included Interlochen Arts Camp, the Rockettes Summer Intensive, Ballet Chicago’s Advanced Intensive, and the Broadway Theatre Project. After graduating summa cum laude from Connecticut College with a major in East Asian studies (Japan concentration) and a minor in dance, she moved to New York City. There, over three years as an assistant editor at Dance Media, Helen covered a wide variety of topics for Dance Spirit, Dance Teacher, Dance Magazine, Pointe, and Dance Business Weekly. Since going freelance in 2019, she’s continued to write cover stories and features for these publications and for new clients. Last year, Helen became an American Ballet Theatre-certified instructor for Pre-Primary through Level 5. Once the coronavirus crisis lifts, she will be moving to Kansai, Japan, to join Youth Theatre Japan as a full-time ballet instructor.
