Rules and Guidelines

Welcome to the Mark Morris Dance Center. We opened our doors to the public over 13 years ago, and in that time the Dance Center has become a major cultural resource for professional dancers, students, and families. It is a place for study, creation, and business. Please review the following details to make the most out of your visit to the Dance Center.

Please check-in at the front desk. Dance Center staff can answer your questions as well as direct you and your guests to the appropriate rental spaces and dressing rooms. You can also make payments, sign contracts or drop off paperwork. We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards.

There are two lounges for public use at the Mark Morris Dance Center, located on the ground floor and fourth floor of the building. There are also two terraces*, located on the fourth and fifth floors. The lobbies and terraces are shared by all of our guests. Feel free to use these spaces as a waiting area or warm-up and stretch before or after classes and rehearsals. We ask that you are respectful of all of our guests’ use of space and privacy.  With this in mind, please refrain from profanity and nudity in any of the public spaces. If you need a private space for costume fittings, board meetings, cocktail parties or fundraisers, we do rent out our lounges and terraces. Please inquire at the front desk for more information.  
* Please note that for safety reasons, children are not allowed on the terraces without adult supervision.

Food and beverages may be consumed in any of our lounge or terrace spaces. All have communal tables and seating available. Please properly dispose of your trash and recycling in the bins provided.

If you are interested in photographing or filming in any of the spaces at the Dance Center, you must ask permission and receive approval prior to your photo or film session. No one may be recorded without their consent including incidental background footage.

Per NYC law, the Mark Morris Dance Center is a smoke-free building.  You are permitted to smoke outside of the building at least 25 feet from the entrance or on the terraces on the 4th and 5th floors.

Parents and caregivers (not MMDG) are responsible for the supervision of minors at any time in the public spaces. Running, biking, scooting, or horseplay is not permitted in any of our public areas.  Volume must be kept at a respectable level and no screaming or yelling please.

Limited stroller parking is available in designated areas in the Dance Center. We encourage all guests to collapse strollers down to their smallest size so that the maximum number of strollers can be accommodated. Strollers may not block paths of egress at any time.

There are several public bike racks conveniently located directly in front of the building on Lafayette Avenue. We strongly encourage you to properly lock your bike in these racks. Citibike, NYC's public bike share program, has multiple docking stations in the area.

Street parking around the Dance Center is metered and limited. There are a few public lots available for parking in the vicinity, including a lot immediately adjacent to the building. Most hourly rates range from $13 to $35 per hour depending on neighborhood activities. We do not validate and recommend that guests allow ample time to secure parking.

Lost and found is located at the back of the ground floor lobby. If you leave an item behind, please check the lost and found area first. Should you find an item of value in the Dance Center, please leave it with the front desk. Items left over 60 days will be removed for donation.

We love your pets but please leave them at home. Service animals are allowed.
