Jillian Amadi Roberts is an antiracist Afrodiasporic dance educator, choreographer, and coach based in Brooklyn, New York. Certified in both early childhood education and dance, Jillian teaches elementary schoolers in Crown Heights by day and adults in studios like Modega, NXGN West New York, PMT, and Peridance by night. Her groovy choreography has been included in award-winning sets by her team Mint Dance Company; music videos by The Gregory Brothers, Garth, and Tropic; and an off-Broadway musical. As a writer and advisor for the Freedom Movement Collective, Jillian works with communities to unpack anti-blackness in the dance industry and creates educational content about Afrodiasporic dance and culture. Jillian’s dance education spans nearly 25 years in street, stage, club, and cultural dances of the African diaspora and beyond. Her class focuses on foundational technique, fundamental steps, and groove as the heartbeat of hip-hop dance.
