Viver Brasil honors Brazil’s African legacy through contemporary dance theater by utilizing Afro-Brazilian dance and music in performance, arts education, community engagement and cultural exchange programs. With an arts base grounded in rigorous historico-cultural research, dialogue and exchange with current arts & culture masters, VB conveys contemporary representations of Afro-Brazilian dance that address 21st century issues of ancestry, humanity, race, and social equity. 

Urban Bush Women Generative Dancer Workshop

Level: “Pre-Professional/Professional” | Previous composition is highly encouraged.This 2-day workshop will take participants through UBW’s creative choreographic lab. Each day includes time for lunch and two 15-minute breaks.
The participants will engage in a process-based approach to UBW’s art-making. The process-based investigations are informed by who is in the room and involve iterative cycles of rigorous embodied research informed by Black Feminist Theory and exploring pelvic mobility to access locomotion, memories, and medicine. Additionally, practices will center radical Black experimentation in the fields of culture, politics, identity, and history.  
Each day will be structured with:
  • Movement Based Warm-Up
  • Structured Improvisation/Investigation/Solo Practice – How we “research” our physicality through prompts and ideas
  • Research – Participants will engage in a Theatre Dance Lecture series
Feel free to bring a journal or notebook and pen/pencil. We look forward to creating and exploring with you!

GagaLab Summer 2024

Join us for GagaLab Summer 2024: 6 days of intensive physical research, with a sense of plenty of time for process and discovery. Rooted in Ohad Naharin’s evolving movement language, GagaLab offers a framework to develop your artistry while connecting to your skills, imagination, and passion to move.  Awaken your senses and turn on your engines in morning Gaga/dancers classes.  Then apply Gaga tools to Naharin’s renowned, challenging choreography in daily repertory sessions, and deepen your understanding of Gaga in afternoon Gaga/metodika classes.

GagaLab Summer 2024 is intended for professional dancers and advanced dance students age 18+.


Dates: August 12-17, 10:00 am – 4:00 p.m. each day (*August 14 & 16 will finish at 4:30 p.m., and August 17 will finish at 2:00 p.m.)

Location: Mark Morris Dance Center – 3 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn, NY

Application:

To apply, complete the following 3 steps: 

  1. Pay the non-refundable $45 application fee here.
  2. Complete the application form. As part of the form, you must provide a link to a video of your dancing.  The video should be 2 minutes in length.  Share your skills and your passion to move.  You must be clearly and completely visible, with no other dancers in the video. 
  3. Email your CV in English to GagaLab@gagapeople.com with the subject line: GagaLab NY Application

GagaLab will not consider any incomplete applications and will not review your application until the application fee has been paid. If your application fee is paid under a different name, notify Gaga by email at GagaLab@gagapeople.com

Accepted dancers will be invited to register via Mark Morris Dance Center’s registration platform within 2 weeks of applying. Tuition is due within 1 week of notification in order to reserve your spot.
