SharedSpace: For Works in Progress

SharedSpace: For Works in Progress

SharedSpace is a residency program that culminates with an informal public showing followed by a facilitated reflection, guided by an established artist in the dance field.  This unique opportunity is for emerging and mid-career choreographers of all genres to present a work in progress at the Mark Morris Dance Center.

Program Benefits

  • Residency: Participants will be offered a 20-hour residency within the two-week period that proceeds the showing.
  • Honorarium: Participants receive a $500 honorarium to use at their discretion to off-set the costs associated with making and showing their work.
  • Facilitation and performance opportunity: MMDG selects a choreographer to  facilitate a reflection at the end of the showing. While optional, the Facilitator and participant are encouraged to meet earlier in the rehearsal process as well.
  • Videography: MMDG will film the SharedSpace showing and provide artists with access to footage.

Informal Showing

  • The informal showing for up to 45 guests happens under studio lights with sound playback or live music. Pieces can be 10-20 minutes in length and minimal props can be accommodated. The showing concludes with the facilitated reflection. All guests and performers are invited to stay for a post-show reception.
