Dance Center Adds Luster to Brooklyn

The official opening was not scheduled until this week, but the dazzling new Mark Morris Dance Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, is already up and running. Its dance classes — for children and adults — filled up in less than a week, and its available studios have been snapped up by dance companies looking for affordable work space.
And as the finishing touches are put on the brightly painted walls of what was once a state-run mental health outpatient clinic, Mark Morris himself is operating at full tilt. On Monday, he taught an advanced modern dance class, rehearsed his company in a three-act opera and played host at a gala thank-you dinner for benefactors — all in one place, his own.
