Mark Morris: Music I Want You To Hear
‘Tis the season… of Tchaikovsky’s brilliant music for the two-act ballet, The Nutcracker. One of Mark’s favorite recordings is Michael Tilson Thomas’ from 1985, in which he used toy instruments.
For The Hard Nut performances at BAM in December, Mark Morris and Music Director Collin Fowler have chosen a 2019 arrangement by German composer and arranger Ronald Kornfeil.
Happy listening and happy holidays!

More Behind the Scenes with The Hard Nut
Whether or not you’ll join us for The Hard Nut at BAM this year, you have a chance to see how the company works in the studio to remount this major evening-length production. Members at the Friend Plus level and above can view a full recording of our 2022 virtual rehearsal during which favorite scenes from The Hard Nut, like Act II’s National Dances and Act I’s incomparable Snow Scene, are rehearsed and coached. At the conclusion of the rehearsal, members of the cast step forward and answer questions posed by viewers. See moments from this virtual rehearsal below.

Gaga & Metodika Workshop and GagaLab Winter
Gaga is a movement language and pedagogy developed by Batsheva Dance Company director and teacher Ohad Naharin. The Dance Center will offer two Gaga workshops this winter. The Gaga & Metodika Workshop led by Kyle Scheurich on December 8 is an enriching physical experience that allows for additional movement research within the Gaga language. The workshop is suitable for veteran Gaga users and newcomers, ages 16+.
GagaLab Winter 2025 in early January features 6 days of intensive physical research. Rooted in Ohad Naharin’s evolving movement language, GagaLab offers a framework to develop one’s artistry while connecting to one’s skills, imagination, and passion to move. GagaLab Winter 2025 is intended for professional dancers and advanced dance students age 18+.
