Behind the Scenes with the Mark Morris Dance Group
On June 24, 2025, we hosted our Summer Virtual Rehearsal and live Q&A with the Mark Morris Dance Group. The company rehearsed sections from
Mark Morris’ 1999 dance, The Argument. Following the rehearsal and coaching session, Rehearsal Director Elisa Clark and the Dancers answered viewers’ questions. Guests enjoyed an insightful glimpse into the process of remounting this work in preparation for the company’s 45th anniversary season launch in NYC in July.

The Mark Morris Dance Accompaniment Training Program is back!
The Mark Morris Dance Accompaniment Training Program aims to elevate dance accompaniment as a viable profession. Created nearly a decade ago by Mark Morris, whose steadfast belief that music and dance are equal partners both onstage and in the studio, the program reflects Morris’ vision, which centers live music in every aspect of the dance experience.
Over four days, musicians in the Dance Accompaniment Training Program will immerse themselves in a rich exploration of music for dance class through a blend of observation, practicum, and discussion. The program emphasizes the fundamentals of ballet and modern technique, the relationship between music and movement, and the accompanist’s role in supporting dance. The program aslo broadens to include Haitian dance traditions and a Dance for PD community class, fostering an inclusive and adaptable approach. Conversations with Robert Boston, Ethan Iverson, Mark Morris, and other artists and educators frame the program with reflection and dialogue.
