A PROGRAM OF THE HARKNESS CENTER FOR DANCE INJURIES AT NYU LANGONE HEALTH IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MARK MORRIS DANCE CENTER, GIBNEY AND BROADWAY DANCE CENTER.
The Harkness Center Healthy Dancer Initiative (HCHDI) provides a cohort of professional dancers in financial need with free wellness workshops to encourage a sound, holistic approach to self-care and aid in career longevity and subsidized classes at three of New York City’s premier dance centers. HCHDI is targeted to dancers residing in the New York City metro area as it is primarily comprised of in-person offerings.
Participant Expectations
1. Take Advantage of Subsidized Classes
– Attend up to 25 dance technique and somatic classes over a 6-month period.
– Each class costs $5.
– Classes are available at: Gibney, Mark Morris Dance Center, Broadway Dance Center
– All adult drop-in classes at these centers are included.
2. Participate in Injury Prevention and Wellness Activities
– Attend free injury prevention workshops and check-in meetings:
a. Held in-person at the four partner organizations.
b. Also available virtually.
– Receive a free Injury Prevention Assessment from the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries.
Dancers are eligible based on financial need – gross household income is equal to or below 225% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) – and are accepted by lottery into each six-month term. There are two terms each year.
