Our Tryouts episode on ESPN+ is out!

The Mark Morris Dance Group is featured in episode 5 of “Tryouts,” an ESPN+ original series that explores the most intense, high-stakes tryouts, competitions, and auditions in America.

Earning a company position is a career defining moment for any modern dancer. Hundreds of performers arrive in NYC to audition; however, company spots rarely open and the pressure is high for these hopefuls in what may be their only shot to impress Mark Morris.

The ESPN+ crew followed us during our company auditions in June 2023, which resulted in the hiring of three new dancers. Watch the trailers:

The Via Dolorosa premiere was a success!

The Dance Group performed the world premiere of Via Dolorosa at Cal Performances in Berkeley at the end of April. Set to Nico Muhly’s meditative composition The Street, inspired by the evocative, mysterious, and poetic texts of Alice Goodman, the dance narrates the 14 stations of the cross. Critics — and audiences — raved.
