The Junior Company of The School at the Mark Morris Dance Center provides a community-centered training and performance opportunity for young dancers ages 7 – 10. Weekly classes and rehearsals are designed for our dancers to collaborate in a creative and fun learning environment. Our students spend the year studying dance technique and working with Teaching Artists, who set their own choreography on the dancers for a year-end culminating performance.

Junior Company I & II dancers are invited to join the program after attending a Mock-Audition each fall. Students must attend the mock-audition in person. There are no audition makeups.

WHAT IS THE MOCK-AUDITION? 

The mock audition is designed to help dancers become familiar with the audition process in a supportive and encouraging environment. Participants will experience elements of a typical company audition, including learning movement combinations, performing in groups, and receiving guidance from faculty.

This experience focuses on building confidence, reducing anxiety, and helping dancers understand what to expect at a company audition. Dancers will have the opportunity to ask questions, practice audition etiquette, and gain valuable experience before the official audition.

Junior Co II Requirements (for dancers 7 and 8 years)

Must be a minimum 7 years of age and have 1 year of formal dance training.

Weekly Required Classes:

• Junior Company II Modern | Friday 4:15 – 5:00pm 
• Junior Company II Rehearsal | Friday 5:00 – 6:00 pm 
• Other technique class of appropriate level

Junior Co I Requirements (for dancers 9 and 10 years)

Must be a minimum 9 years of age and have 1 year of formal dance training.

 Weekly Required Classes:

• Junior Company I Modern | Friday 4:45 – 5:30 pm 
• Junior Company I Rehearsal | Friday 5:30 – 6:30 pm 
• Other technique class of appropriate level
