Mikaila Ware is a movement artist, educator, community facilitator, and writer based in Harlem, New York. She was raised in East Atlanta, Georgia, where the spirit of the region runs deep in her cadence, groove, experimentation, and playscaping. Her movement versatility is rooted in Black storytelling and used to excavate truths within liminal spaces. She uses her research in public policy, accessibility, and contemporary Afro-diasporic forms to understand the context in which we gather and how to build collective movements through dance. Upon graduating from Florida State University with her B.F.A in Dance, Mikaila has worked in dance-theater projects with choreographers such as Davalois Fearon, Kayla Farrish, André Zachery (Renegade Performance Group), Johnnie Cruise Mercer (TheREDprojectNYC), Symara Sarai, and Kendra J. Ross. Mikaila’s choreography and solo practice have been presented at Dixon Place, STooPs Art and Community, and AUNTS Goes Public performance series. Mikaila has taught for several dance programs, including SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, University at Buffalo, and Dance Canvas. Mikaila was the Accessibility Partnerships and Programs Fellow at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and an alumna of the Diversity in Arts Leadership program with the Arts and Business Council of New York. She was a 2026 danceWEB scholar at ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival, and has recently completed six seasons with Urban Bush Women.
