
Marina Makarova

Marina Makarova is an award-winning pianist, improviser, and accompanist based in New York. She began with classical studies, later progressing to jazz. Marina has an M.D. in jazz piano performance from Gnessin Academy of Music. She has performed at Opera America, Iridium, Birdland, Kitano, Louis Armstrong House Museum, MORA, Davidzone Radio, Forte Piano Music Company, Kosciuszko Foundation, and Medgar College. Marina currently accompanies the gospel choir at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Her additional training includes the Mark Morris Dance Accompaniment Training Program.

Intro to Modern II | Summer II Session
This series of classes is designed for students who have taken Intro to Modern or are beginners with relatively little experience with Modern dance and want to continue to explore. This series is a great step to further developing the rudimentary movements that are the foundation for modern dance to live musical accompaniment. Students will focus on contractions, spirals, basic floor work, and elemental concepts of space, time and force in a fun and encouraging environment.
