Marla Phelan
Marla Phelan is a choreographer and dancer creating for film and theater. Marla examines the turbulence of change, portraying defiant characters at the intersection of love and longing. Marla danced for Gibney Company, Hofesh Shechter, Azure Barton, Punchdrunk, and Broadway’s Fiddler on the Roof (Associate Choreographer/Director). Marla’s commissions include Gibney Company, AlphaOmega, Sacred Heart University, and 3AM Theater. Marla directed and choreographed the short film The Fell of Dark and directed movement for Fischerspooner, RCHRDSN Studio, Christina Choe, Arturo Castro, and campaigns for Maison Margiela, Mazda, GAP, Reebok, and Stuart Weitzman. Marla’s work has premiered on network television, SXSW, Future Dance Festival, FringeARTS, WestFest, Dixon Place, Gibney, Edgerton Center, Crystal Theater, PepsiCo Theater, KnJ Theater, and publications V magazine, Refinery29, NOWNESS, The New York Times, and New York Magazine. Marla is a Simons Foundation and Gibney Open Interval Resident, Sacred Heart University Dance Emerging Choreographer, Studio-to-Stage Resident, and YoungARTS awardee. Marla is a Juilliard alum and founder of Movement Museum.
