Membership Assistant

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Mark Morris Dance Groups seeks a Membership Assistant to join our high-performance fundraising team as we enter the final year of our Mark Morris: Above & Beyond campaign. This position has the primary responsibility of managing our members and contributors giving at the $1-$249 levels. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys engaging with individuals, who is an excellent project manager, and who is eager to manage and grow a portfolio of individual supporters.

This position reports to the Director of Development and joins a development team that includes a Grants Coordinator, Individual Giving Coordinator, and Database and Research Administrator. The Membership Assistant interfaces with all Program staff to best meet the communication, fulfillment, and solicitation needs of members and donors contributing to specific programs such as our Dance for PD and Education/Community Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Manage regular communications to our members/donors contributing at the $1-249 levels including:
    • Provide prompt receipt of donation
    • Send regular stewardship communication, mailings, and benefits fulfillment
    • Draft and mail/email monthly renewal notices
  • Run and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to proactively develop and implement strategies for new and renewed gifts
  • Systematically research contributors and prospects
  • Maintain digital files for donors $1-249 including scanned correspondence
  • Contribute to development, marketing and program staff discussions to further develop strategies for converting highly engaged non-donors into first-time contributors
  • Represent the Mark Morris Dance Group at events

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years of experience in fundraising from individuals or comparable experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency with office technology: Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook and Teams, Asana, Ovation Tickets, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or comparable database experience preferred

the Dance Group performs the repertory of choreographer Mark Morris, hailed as the “the most successful and influential choreographer alive, and indisputably the most musical” (The New York Times), whose work is
acclaimed for its ingenuity, musicality, wit, and humanity. Live music and community engagement are vital components of the Dance Group. It has toured with its own musicians, the MMDG Music Ensemble, since
1996, and regularly collaborates with orchestras and opera companies around the world. In addition to 20 fulltime dancers, the organization employs 45 full-time staff, and more than 125 part-time staff, teaching artists, and musicians.

In the heart of the Brooklyn Cultural District, the Mark Morris Dance Center, founded in 2001, is the hub of dance and music education in Brooklyn. The nine-studio building provides affordable classes in multiple genres for people of all ages, levels, with and without disabilities, accompanied by live music. The studios, a performance space, a Wellness Center, and ancillary spaces are all available to the community and to nonprofit organizations at subsidized rates. MMDG’s Community Education Programs partner with public and private schools and community centers to provide customized classes. MMDG also offers customized dance workshops for persons with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers in 10 locations in all 5 boroughs.
