November 9th marked our first annual Community Day at the Dance Center!

Our Dance Center staff and dance faculty hosted hundreds of dancers of all ages and abilities and experience levels to take part in classes ranging from Ballet to Intergenerational West African to Hip-Hop to Broadway Jazz Family Fun and Restorative Movement. Attendees were also invited to watch screenings of Mark Morris’ L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderatoas well as Dance for PD’s Capturing Grace. We ended the day of movement with a lively dance party celebrating our community.

Mark Morris: Music I Want You To Hear

November is a moment of transition, the days become shorter and the weather gets chillier– it’s a great time to slow down, pick up a good book, or “really” listen to music. That’s where Mark’s Big Idea Music playlist comes in. The music on this list is big, profound, and transportive. “I love it all,” says Mark. “I suggest listening to the individual works straight through. No shuffle please.”

Happy listening.

Behind the Scenes with the Mark Morris Dance Group
On September 16, 2025, we hosted our Fall Virtual Rehearsal and Live Q&A with the Mark Morris Dance Group. The company rehearsed sections from Mark Morris’ You’ve Got to Be Modernistic, which recently premiered in July of 2025. Following the rehearsal and coaching session, Rehearsal Director Elisa Clark and the dancers answered viewers’ questions. Guests enjoyed an insightful glimpse into the process of preparing this new work for the company’s 45th anniversary season tour.

At the Dance Center: Open Company Class with A.I.M
Delve into Abraham In Motion (A.I.M) core movement values at the Dance Center!

In partnership with A.I.M, the Dance Center will begin hosting monthly Open Company Classes taught by the dancers of A.I.M. The classes will emphasize four of the company’s core movement values: exploration, musicality, abandonment, and intuition. Class takers will be led through warm-up sequences focused on fluidity of the spine, articulation, and core body strengthening. The class builds to include challenging, creative, and invigorating phrase work which are signature to the A.I.M movement vocabulary.

We’re so excited to bring this partnership to the Dance Center and to our adult class takers!

From Dance for PD: Dance for PD at National Organization for Arts in Health (NOAH)
Last week, Dance for PD Program Director, David Leventhal, facilitated a workshop that invited participants to explore how movement-based practices can enhance well-being and equity in the arts as part of the annual National Organization of Arts in Health (NOAH) conference in New York City.
David led participants through activities modeled after Dance for PD®‘s curriculum to further contextualize how movement-based practices can foster cross-pollination among art forms and enhance well-being and equity in arts and health contexts. Emphasizing “learning by moving,” the workshop offered participants practical and embodied tools that can be readily applied to support cognitive and physical engagement, foster agency and belonging, and cultivate connection across diverse populations.
