ITEM DESCRIPTIONS
Program Systemization Support Workshop – 1.5 hrs
Designed for program administrators, this workshop gives examples of systems MMDG has implemented to ensure consistency, effective communication, and regular access points for all community members throughout our programs. It also includes opportunities for workshop participants to brainstorm around how they might use these examples as a model for creating systems of their own.
Program Systemization Support Ongoing Meetings – 1hr/month for 12 months
Monthly phone calls with a designated member of MMDG Education staff with an aim to provide an ongoing space for a listening ear and feedback as information is implemented throughout an organization’s programs.
Working in the Non-traditional Space for Dance Workshop – 2hrs
This workshop discusses the assets and challenges of teaching within spaces not purpose built for dance instruction, provides solutions for meeting those challenges, and sets up time for conversation between participants regarding what they have found successful for their specific communities.
Adaptive vs. Inclusion Teaching Workshop – 2 hrs
Adaptive and inclusion instructional experiences are different from each other. This workshop presents the key differences, as well as the ways in which they intersect, and provides opportunities for educators to discuss the implementation of effective teaching strategies for specific communities of dancers.
Introduction to Culturally Responsive Teaching Practice In the Studio Workshop – 2 hrs
A Culturally Responsive Educational approach is more than simply the latest educational buzz word: it allows the dance educator to authentically engage with and celebrate the differences of each respective student while encouraging student-driven learning. This workshop examines what this approach is and how to begin implementing it within the dance classroom.
Classroom Management Practices for the Recreational, Committed Dancer Workshop – 2hrs
In the words of Mark Morris, “Dance is for Anybody!” – not everybody wants to dance, but if you want to, you should be able to in whichever way suits you best, from professional to recreational. Sometimes it can seem as though the recreational classroom requires the teacher to drop standards of excellence – this workshop details why that’s not true and how teachers can manage their classrooms to align with this philosophy.
Engaging Caregivers in the Classroom Workshop – 2hrs
We’ve all been there – the students are distracted, the lesson is going off the rails, and the para-professional is on their phone! This workshop examines the role of the caregiver in the classroom and how the teacher can engage them to ensure student success.
Incorporating Music in the Dance Classroom Workshop – 2hrs
This workshop for dance educators interested in learning more about communicating effectively with musicians. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the ways in which the languages of dance and music differ and align, chat with musicians about best practices, and try setting exercises in collaboration with live musical accompaniment.
