Modern Dance

Modern dance is a concert dance form that developed from ballet in the early 20th century. Our classes are accompanied by live music and draw from a variety of modern dance styles and techniques. Several classes are led by MMDG dancers who infuse Mark Morris’ choreography into their combinations. Classes begin with a floor and standing warm-up followed by center and traveling exercises that focus on proper technique, spinal articulation (including contractions and spirals), musicality, and movement quality.

Suggested Attire:

• Comfortable clothing in which you can easily move. Leotard optional.
• Bare feet

Open Level Duncan Technique

View Detail

Join us once a month for an immersive workshop in the technique and repertoire of legendary dance innovator, Isadora Duncan. This rare opportunity to study the expressive movement vocabulary will focus on the distinct elements of her technique and relate the work to dance history and contemporary practice. An unconventional genius of her time, Duncan created works which have retained their vitality and relevance for today’s dancers. In each session, we will experience the full body flow of the technique and then explore dances from Duncan’s sensational and sensual repertoire.

For dancers with a minimum of 2 years dance experience. No prior Duncan training necessary.
