Details
L’isolata Disabitata, directed by Mark Morris, is his first opera without dancing.
In honor of the bicentennial of Joseph Haydn’s death, Gotham Chamber Opera presented the New York City stage premiere of Haydn’s L’isolata Disabitata (Desert Island), with a new production directed by Mark Morris. L’isolata Disabitata is Mark Morris’ first collaboration with Gotham Chamber Opera. The work, with a libretto by Metastasio, calls for four singers and a typical early classical orchestra. Allen Moyer (scenic design) and Elizabeth Kurtzman (costume design) collaborated.
Press Quotes
-
"Mark Morris's direction fleshes out the irony and humor in Pietro Metastasio's already witty libretto. Morris's modernity and musicality is everywhere evident."
