Acis and Galatea

Music - George Frideric Handel

Acis is in love with Galatea.
The monster, Polyphemus, also loves her.
In a jealous rage, and spurned by Galatea,
Polyphemus hurls a boulder at Acis and mortally wounds him.
Galatea uses her magic powers to change her dead lover
into a stream that will flow eternally.

Mark Morris

Four soloists join the Mark Morris Dance Group in the on-stage action.
Accompanied by a full orchestra plus a chorale comprised of professional singers and students of the William Jewell College.

Acis and Galatea was selected in the Top 5 of the San Francisco Chronicle’s Best of 2014 and the New York Times’ 2014 Best Dance
